José M. Garcia, 88, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2023 in Harlingen, Texas. He was born to Manuel Garcia Gonzalez and Maria Teresa Santiago Natal on February 19, 1935 in Manatí, Puerto Rico.
He graduated from high school and, after two years of college, he graduated with a degree in accounting. José worked at the New York Presbyterian Hospital in the Accounting Department and retired after 20 plus years of service. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army.
José loved and was a huge fan of baseball.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuel Garcia Gonzalez and Maria Teresa Santiago Natal.
Left to treasure José’s memory is his wife, Gloria Ventura Garcia; his children, José A. Garcia, Carlos M. Garcia, Bilma T. Garcia, Ramonita M. Garcia, Sonia Torcello; his grandchildren, George A. Laboy, Justin Laboy, Dylan C. Miralle, Stephanie Garcia, Corina Garcia, Andre Garcia, Nicole Wakefield, Chassity Alekseyev; his great grandchildren, Daisy B. Wakefield, Autumn L. Wakefield, Danika Garcia, Eli Garcia, and Luka Garcia Burchfiled. He is also survived by his sister, Norma Serrano Santiago; his brother Antonio Garcia; his brother-in-law, Stanley I. Fisch; and his uncle, Reynaldo Cordovas.
The family received friends and relatives on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 o’clock Friday evening. A graveside service will take place on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 2:15 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jose A. Garcia, Carlos M. Garcia, Andre Garcia, and Daniel O. Martinez.
