Jose Guadalupe”Joey” DeLeon Jr, age 46, passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday March 16, 2016.
He was born in Harlingen, Texas on March 11, 1970 to his loving parents Jose Guadalupe and Sarita Lozano DeLeon.
Joey is survived by his son Joe Julian DeLeon III, his Parents Jose Guadalupe Sr and Sarita DeLeon, sister Cassandra “Kayce” DeLeon, his nieces, aunts, and uncles. Also part of his life he is survived by Sonia Garcia, and Pearl Martinez.
He was a graduate of HHS in 1988, UNT in 1994 where he received his degree in Music and Education. Joey was a member of Delta Delta Delta Fraternity and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America.
Joey had a hard life healthwise but he never quit. He underwent numerous kidney surgeries/rejections. He lovingly received his kidney from his daddy on December 21, 1995. In spite of all this he graduated and became a music teacher & choir director for 10 years until he became disabled. He had a super talent for music, was able to play numerous instruments and composed numerous songs.
He was a hero, his selfless act and heroism saved two people from drowning at South Padre Island, and he was inducted into the Boy Scout’s Order of Eagle. He loved to play baseball and football, was a member of the Harlingen Chorale, a tenor in the UNT One Time Band, and had a passion for motorcycles. Joey deeply loved his entire family. The greatest joy and love of his life was his only son Joe Julian. Joey had great faith in Christ and he is now in his masters arms.
Visitation will be held between the hours of 3:00 P.M. and 9:00 P.M. today Sunday March 20, 2016, with a Prayer Service scheduled for seven o’clock this evening within the San Benito Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Tadeo Cano Jr.
Funeral Services for Joey will be 10am-12noon Monday 21, 2016 at Principe de Paz Church, 321 E. Lincoln Avenue, Harlingen, Texas 78550. A funeral procession will follow to Heavenly Grace Memorial Park, La Feria, TX
Honored to be his pallbearers will be his cousins, Gerardo Lozano, John Alan Lozano, John Robert Lozano, Arnold DeLeon Jr, Michael James Solis, and Johnny DeLeon Jr. Special thanks to his aunts, Diana Solis and Linda DeLeon who loved Joey like a son.
