Jose M. Cortez, 81, loving father, grandfather, devoted husband entered into the glory of his eternal host on Monday February 9, 2009. He was born to Gaspar and Nieves De Leon Cortez in San Benito, Texas on July 31, 1927. Mr. Cortez is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Cortez and son, David Cortez; grandchildren, Nina Cortez of San Antonio, TX and Zachary Cortez of Donna, TX. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Dora Ramos of Corpus Christi, TX, Reynaldo Cortez of Athens, Georgia, Anita (Ramiro) Gomez of Brownsville, TX, Gaspar (Clarita) Cortez, Jr of San Antonio, TX, Israel (Annie) Cortez of Falfurrias, TX, Delia (Isaac) Martinez of Harlingen, TX, Mary Oaks of Lyford, TX, Robert (Estela) Cortez of Donna, TX, Elisa (Raul) Garcia of Cedar ParkTX,Emily (Walt) Canady of Round Rock TX, and Carlos (Noemi) Cortez of Houston, TX. He is preceded in death by his father, Gaspar Cortez, his mother, Nieves Cortez and his brother, Antonio Cortez. He was a past commander and member of the Catholic War Veterans Post 1109 for the past 50 years and took great pride in serving his country. Pallbearers will be brothers, Rey Cortez, Gaspar Cortez, Robert Cortez, Carlos Cortez, nephews, Arnoldo Cortez, Gilbert Cortez. Visitation will be on Thursday February 12, 2009 from 12pm to 9pm at San Benito Funeral Home with a rosary at 7pm. Funeral services will be on Friday February 13, 2009 at 2pm and we ask that everyone meet at the St. Teresa Catholic Church for the mass.
