Jose L. Aguirre was born on November 28, 1935 in San Benito, Texas to Tomas and Evangelina Aguirre. He passed peacefully on January 11, 2024 with family members by his side.
“Pickles” or “Pepe”, as everybody knew him, attended all his schooling in San Benito. He was an all-around athlete, participating in football, wrestling and Golden Gloves boxing, but his love was for baseball. Pickles was an avid Greyhound and Dallas Cowboys fan his whole life. He was also a proud veteran, serving a total of 6 years in the US Army and Army Reserves.
Pickles had several interesting occupations, including being a bootmaker at one point. Most of his work career involved serving as a bailiff for Judge Roy Valdez in the Cameron County court system. This led him to enjoy following local politics throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his, wife Rita; his parents, Tomas and Evangelina Aguirre; his siblings, Tomas, Eugenio, Viola, Olga, Mary Alice, Corina, Robert, Eva, Florestella, and Dora. Pickles is the last of his generation of 11 siblings to pass.
He is survived by his children, Dora del Valle (Joe) and Ruben Aguirre (Noe). Pickles and Rita also loved their young neighbor, Rene Paredez Jr., and enjoyed watching him grow from a young child to a young man. Pickles will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and other relatives of his through marriage.
