Johnny “John” Lee McCormick passed away on Monday, December 19, 2016 in Harlingen, Texas after a year-long battle with cancer.
John was born on February 28, 1954 in La Chappelle, France to William and Mary McCormick while William was serving in the US Army. Being raised in a military family, he spent much of his life living in Europe as well as the United States. In 1976, after his father retired from the US Army, he resided in Belton, Texas. Here he worked part time for Sonic while working in Civil Service at Ft. Hood. He retired in 2012 after 30 years of service. In 2013, he moved with his parents to Laguna Vista, Texas where he worked with his brothers in their Domino’s Pizza stores.
John was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. He proudly told all that he was their “#1 Fan.” He had an extensive collection of memorabilia for both of these teams.
John is survived by his parents and 5 brothers, Shelly (Regina) McCormick of Apopka, Florida, Wayne (Delores) McCormick of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bill McCormick of La Feria, Mitch (Penni) McCormick of Harlingen, Texas and Steve (Sandra) McCormick of Brownsville, Texas and his beloved dog Sasha, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, E.A. and Carrie McCormick of McComb, Mississippi and maternal grandparents Charles and Jackie Taylor of Lawton, Oklahoma.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 10:00 am at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, with a service to be conducted at 11:30 am. Private family burial will be at the Rio Grande Valley Veteran’s Cemetery in Mission, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center or to a charity of your choice.
