Johnny James Canville

Johnny James Canville passed away Wednesday August 17, 2016, at the age of 88 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Johnny was born April 25, 1928, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Osage Tribe.  Johnny moved from to Rio Hondo, Texas, at age 5. He graduated from Rio Hondo High School in 1945. After 2 ½ years of college, Johnny decided that his passion was farming and ranching. In 1950, he began growing cotton, grain and vegetables. Johnny married the love of his life, Ruth Ann Thompson, on May 28, 1952. They were married for 64 years. Johnny had a love for Christ and was active in the church where he served as Chairman of the deacons of Rio Hondo Baptist Church for 43 years. He also served on the Rio Hondo water board, Rio Hondo school board, and was a 32nd Mason. Johnny enjoyed serving and being active in his community. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was adored by so many friends and family and will be remembered for his loving and gentle spirit, a great husband, father, leader, and true friend.
Johnny is survived by his wife Ruth Ann and son Mark James Canville, and daughters, Connie Hamlin and husband Jerry, Debbie Seymour and husband Gary, Luanne Evans and husband James as well as 8 grandchildren, Heston Hale, Lauren Anzualdua , Candice Rayburn, Jonathan Hamlin, Robby Canville, Chris Canville , Blake Evans and Chad Evans as well as 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held August 19 from 5 pm-7 pm at Buck Ashcraft Funeral home.
A service will be held at Rio Hondo Baptist Church Sat, August 20th at 2:00 pm followed by a graveside ceremony at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be: Heston Hale, Louis Anzaldua, Blake Evans, Chad Evans, Jonathan Hamlin and James Evans. Honorary Pallbearers are the Rio Hondo Baptist Church deacons.
Memorials can be made to Rio Hondo Baptist Church.
