Harlingen:
Johnnie Wheaton Stapleton, 88, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 at her residence in Harlingen.
Johnnie was born on August 20, 1923 in Combes, TX to W.H. and Minnie Wheaton. She attended schools in Combes and Harlingen and graduated from Harlingen High School.
Johnnie was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen. She loved her church and served as the head Hostess for over 20 years.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Carl Lynn Johnson, Jr. of Harlingen and Kylie Kulwicki (Brandon) of Dallas, TX; great-granddaughter, Sutton Kulwicki of Dallas, TX sisters, Maggie McClanahan (Ralph) and Roxie George (David) both of Harlingen; sister-in-law, Ruth Wheaton of Sebastian, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Johnnie was preceded in death by husband, Herchel “Doc” Stapleton; son, Herchel “Herky” Stapleton; daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Johnson; and siblings, Dena Domingue, Sara Massey, Mattie Mae Miller, C.W. Wheaton and Totsey Freeman and her parents.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Johnnie will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Harlingen, 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 4, 2012 with the Rev. David Payne officiating.
Private entombment services will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
