John C. “Johnny” Boling, PhD, passed away early Friday morning, September 30, 2022, in Harlingen, Texas at 83 years of age. He was born August 31, 1939 in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was raised in Donna, Texas and was a graduate of Donna High School.
From 1960 to 1962, Johnny worked at the Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station in Weslaco, Texas. In 1965, he began his university studies at Texas A&M University. He went on to obtain his PhD in Entomology from Mississippi State University in 1970.
His life’s work as an agricultural consultant and crop appraiser was spent in the Rio Grande Valley and Northern Mexico. Johnny was an avid hunter and fisherman which made the Sportsman’s Paradise of the Rio Grande Valley a great place to call home.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Louis V. and Mary Jane Boling and his sister, Leslie Boling. He is survived by his wife, Jane Boling; sons, Louis and Robert Boling; daughter, Dorothy Boling; grandsons, Tristan and Louie Boling; granddaughter, Jordan Boling; and sister, Janice Willhoite.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 6, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home, 1400 W. Business 77, San Benito, Texas.
