John Henry Vogt

June 30, 1921 — October 20, 2018

John "Jack" Vogt entered into the Kingdom of Heaven Oct. 20, 2018. Jack was born at home on his parent's farm in Grant Township, Clinton County, Iowa on June 30, 1921 to William and Selma Vogt.  Jack came from a large German family and spent his childhood playing and working at many of his relative's farms around Grand Mound, Iowa.  Jack had so many wonderful memories and great stories about farm life, and life in Clinton, Iowa.  He loved recounting them to his family and friends, and he was a sensational story teller with a remarkable memory.  Jack was also a man of great faith, kindness, humility and humor.

Jack was a member of America's Greatest Generation and a World War II veteran.  He served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a gunner's mate. While he was on leave he met the love of his life, Anne Marie Kuentz.  After Jack was discharged, he and Anne eloped to New Hampton, Iowa.  They were together for 67 years until Anne passed away in 2013.

Jack graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois with a degree in Business Administration.  He worked for Aetna Bearing Company and finished his career with Lear Siegler Inc. as the Midwest Sales Manager.  He and Anne retired in 1984 to South Padre Island and then Harlingen, Texas.  Jack and Anne then spent the next 10 years traveling the world.  They were members of Treasure Hills Presbyterian where Jack served as an Elder.  He lived a very long and happy life and was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

Jack is predeceased by his loving wife, Anne Marie, his parents, William and Selma Vogt, his brothers William Jr., and Stanley, his sister, Katherine, his beloved granddaughter, Chelsea Marie Lapka and his son-in-law, Robert B. Lapka.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Janaan Lapka of South Padre Island, and his sons, John H. Vogt Jr. of Crystal Lake, Illinois and Jeffrey L. Vogt (Deborah) of Elkhorn, Wisconsin.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Seth Vogt, Peter Vogt, Ingrid Vogt, Edward Vogt and Stefanie Lapka; his brother Charles Vogt (Jeanette) of Naples, Florida and many nieces and nephews.
