John (Johnny) Edward Swope, 81, went home to be with the Lord on May 7, 2012. He was born December 7, 1930, to C.W. and Eva Swope in Killeen, Texas.  He married his high school sweetheart, Nettie Sue (Susie) Myers in La Feria, Texas in 1950. Soon after he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a Military Policeman for two years. He spent 54 years working in the wholesale hardware business and upon retirement devoted himself to his family and his citrus orchard.
John loved the Lord and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Harlingen and a devoted member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. He enjoyed making people laugh so he always carried a smile and a joke but most importantly, he took his personal testimony with him each day and shared it with everyone. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Susie Swope. He is survived by his son, John (Jan) Swope, Jr. of Pearland, Texas; daughter, Linda Swope (Rick) Sibley of Harlingen, Texas; grandsons, Jeramy (Jennifer) Sibley of Richmond, Virginia and Chad (Katie) Swope of League City, Texas; and granddaughters, Jennifer Sibley of Fort Worth, Texas and Shannon Swope of Pearland, Texas. He is also survived by his sister, Nina Fraiser of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 11 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria with Rev. Chris Hall officiating. Full Military Honors being conducted by the American Legion Post 205.
