John I. Snodgrass

Palm Valley:
John Snodgrass, age 93, of Palm Valley passed away at his home on the morning of April 19, 2012.
He was born October 2, 1918 in Harford County Maryland to John and Elizabeth Famous Snodgrass.  He married Jean Behlen of Cleveland, Ohio on January 2nd 1943.
At the age of 12 he won a scholarship to McDonogh School, a military boarding school.  He graduated at age 16.  From there he went to Johns Hopkins Engineering School where he graduated first in his class at the age of 20.
He went to work for the DuPont Company where he had an interesting and productive career.  He started work in Wilmington, Delaware and lived in many locations around the world, retiring 42 years later in Barranquilla, Colombia.
After retiring, he and his wife settled in Palm Valley where they have lived for nearly 30 years.  He was a member of SCORE for 10 years.  An avid golfer, he was a member of the Harlingen Country Club where he served as President in 1994.  He was also a local Director of the Life Begins at 40 Golf Tournament.  He recently retired from the board of the Cameron County Drainage District #5 where he served for 14 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, of 69 years; son John Snodgrass, Jr. and wife Dee of Fort Worth; daughter Susy Kuehner and husband Jon of Kailua, Hawaii; grand children Dawn Snodgrass, David Snodgrass and wife Rebecca of Fort Worth; Sarah Byrne and husband Rodolfo of Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Tyler Snodgrass and Scott Byrne.
He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Bill and James Snodgrass; sister-in-law Virginia Kellogg and grandson Scott Kuehner.

Funeral services will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Dr. at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, April 22, 2012.  After the services, friends are invited to visit with the family at their home on Palm Valley Drive East.
