Harlingen, Texas:
John W. Schoen, 37, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2009 at his residence surrounded by his family after his battle with colon cancer.
John was born May 6, 1972 in Provo, Utah to Robert A. and Janet W. Schoen. He received a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas State University and a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from St. Mary’s University.  John was a Licensed Professional Counselor, a certified teacher in social studies for 8th to 12th grades and was employed by Tropical Texas Behavioral Health Brownsville Children’s Unit.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served on a two year mission for his church in Las Vegas, Nevada from 1991 to 1993.  John was active with his family, the Elders Quorum at his church, Tae Kwon Do, skydiving, bonsai, and acting.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jacqui Schoen, his children, Tommy, Sheridan, Rita and Miles; his parents Robert A. Schoen, Sr. and Janet W. Schoen; siblings, Rob (Kaelene) Schoen, Heather (Shaman) Morris, Beth (John) Nelson, Janet Schoen, Becky (Dave) Filhart,  Mike (Heather) Schoen, and Christen Schoen; and 5 nieces and 7 nephews.  John is also survived by his parents-in-law, Tom and Rosemarie Hoopes; sister and brother-in-law, Sandie and Joel Benitez.
Visitation hours will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen on Saturday, October 8, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E. in San Antonio on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Redland Building, 17151 Jones Maltsberger Rd. in San Antonio on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 10 a.m.  Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
