John L. Parker, age 55, passed away peacefully at his home on March 11, 2013, in the arms of his mother Virginia Parker and his wife Dana in Harlingen, TX. In the days before his death, he was surrounded by family and dear friends in love. Born Again for many years, he is now awaiting the Return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
John was an independent business owner for over 35 years, with extensive knowledge of big rigs, heavy equipment and just about everything else. He also participated in clean up operations after hurricanes Rita in Orange, TX - 2005 and Ike in Galveston, TX - 2008.
Throughout his life, John loved motorcycles (parking those in his living room), pets, fishing, boats, hot rods, top fuel drag racing, antiques, antique glass collecting and many more things.
He was preceded in death by his father Kenneth Parker, uncle Bill Parker, Grandparents Eunice and Elgerine Parker, all of Harlingen.
He is survived by his 104 year old grandmother Mabel Cowart Nesmith of Lakewood, CO; mother, Virginia Parker; and wife, Dana of Harlingen; sons Lucas (Melissa), Phillip (Emily) and Shane Parker; granddaughter, Haley Parker of La Feria, TX; daughter, Megan Parker of Newnan, GA; brother and sister in law, James and Jessica Gartman of Friendswood, TX; sister and brother in law, Debra and Al Kleemeyer of Forth Worth, TX; sister, Linda Parker of College Station, TX; cousin, Jan Nesmith of Harlingen; stepchildren, Kathleen and Anthony Machado of Harlingen; also numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins from both sides of his parents families.
Visitation will be Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home in Harlingen, TX from 3 to 6pm. A Memorial Celebration and Memorial Ride will be held at Mad Boar Harley Davidson in San Benito, TX at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 30, 2013 for family and friends to celebrate his life.
John asked and the family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, The American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
