John A. Moothart

Harlingen:
John A. Moothart, 80, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
John was born on January 20, 1929 in Brownsville, Texas to Warden and Marjorie Moothart.  He moved to Harlingen in 1933 and graduated from Harlingen High School in 1945.  He then attended and graduated from Baylor University with a Business and Law Degree.  John then joined the U.S.A. F. where he served for three years in Scotland.
John returned to Harlingen after his military service and was a tax attorney for the Harlingen I.S. D. for several years.  In 1959 he joined his father in the investment business and then retired in 1992 as Vice President with Rauscher Pierce Investments.
He was a member of the Tax Bar Association, Cameron County Bar Association, Harlingen Rotary Club, Harlingen Elks Lodge #1889, and the Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church.  John was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time at his home on South Padre Island.
John is survived by sons, Ward A. Moothart and Frank Brooks (Jeanette S.) Greer; grandson, John Brooks Greer; and special friend whom he thought of as a daughter, Ofelia (FeFe) Vela.
He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Lea S. Moothart; son, Cleve Greer; and his parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the family receiving from 6 PM to 8 PM at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2009, 11:00 AM, at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Palmer officiating.  Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Tucker, Rollie Koppel, Frank Boggus, Lloyd Pratt, Terry Gray, Greg Powers, Bud Vaught and Forrest Narup.
The family would like to thank his caregiver, Jaime Reyes for his loving care.
The family request that Memorial contributions may be made to the Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church or a charity of choice.
John will be most remembered as someone who loved Life!
