John M. Kilgore

RIO HONDO, TX:
John Martin Kilgore passed to his eternal home on Sunday, January 13th.
John was born to Kedric & Willie Mae Kilgore on April 13, 1931 in Aldridge, Alabama. He was a devoted and faithful husband to Leoda Kilgore for 55 years. John was called to serve his country in Korea when he was 18 years old and served 2 years.
He worked for the CC Irrigation District 2 & 3 for 48 years and retired as supervisor in 1994.  He was a member of First Assembly of God in Harlingen where he was a board member and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was always available to help wherever he was needed.
John is survived by his wife Leoda Kilgore, four younger siblings, Joan (Roger) Williams, Jeannie (Dave) Miller, Carolyn Parker, James Kilgore and sister- in- law Laverne (Bert) Jarvis. He was more than an Uncle to his many nieces and nephews and was lovingly called Papaw by Ashley, Stephen and Mia Araiza.
John had a big personality that will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his sidekick, Blondie, the neighbor's dog.
Visitation hours will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2008 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family being present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Graveside services only will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 10:30 A.M., at Rio Hondo Cemetery with Pastor Wade Peyton officiating.
For those desiring to do so memorial contributions may be made to the Gideons or the First Assembly of God Church Building Fund.
