John A. Johnson

John (Johnnie) Johnson, 86, passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Angel Care Haven in Harlingen, Texas.
John was born on April 21, 1927 in Galveston, TX to Carl Frank and Irene Johnson.  He graduated from Ball High School then served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Upon returning from the war, he attended and graduated from Texas A & M University in 1951.
After college, John began a career in agriculture where he first owned a dairy farm in Earth County, Texas.  In 1971, he came to the Rio Grande Valley where he set up citrus groves and a greenhouse raising citrus and avocado trees.  He retired for a few short years and then began teaching science at Todd Jr. High School in Donna, TX, where he was voted Teacher of the Year during the 1991-92 school year.
John was a devoted Mason and past Master of the former La Feria Masonic Lodge #1197.  He was a lifetime member of the Rio Grande Shrine Club, lifetime member of the Al Amin Temple of Corpus Christi, TX and a lifetime member of Scottish Rite Boudin of San Antonio, TX.  John received his 50 year service award from the Grande Lodge of Texas in 2007.
John thought the Valley was the most wonderful place because he met and married Betty Ford, the love of his life, who survives him.  He is also survived by daughter Deborah Ford Well and her husband, Chris and grandchildren, Alex Well and Lauren Well.  John was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church in La Feria, 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 9, 2013.  Burial will be private at Restlawn Memorial Park.
Viewing and visitation with the family will precede the service from 10:00 AM till service time at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the First Baptist Church,  P.O. Box 27, La Feria, TX 78559 or to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, TX 75219.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all of the doctors and the caring staff at Angel Care Haven in Harlingen, TX.
