John Henry Cramer entered peacefully into eternal rest Monday, September 26, 2016.
Born April 7, 1919 in Bogart, Missouri, John was the eldest son of Lewis and Sarah Cramer. He traveled to Texas in 1937 with his 2 older sisters in search of work. His passion for tractors and farming began while working for his Uncle Lee on their family farm in Rio Hondo area. In 1941 he joined the Army and served his country faithfully during World War II in the Pacific Ocean Theater as a radio operator until 1945. In 1946, he married Ruth McEowen and shortly after began his career at Harlingen Implement and ended as Parts Manager for Rio Hondo Implement. A career which lasted 45 years and one he thoroughly enjoyed.
After retirement, he and Ruth relocated to McAllen to be closer to their granddaughters. John was a devout member of the United Methodist Church of Harlingen and later McAllen upon relocation. John’s wonderful disposition was well known. He greeted everyone with a smile and a firm handshake; and for those close to his heart, he added an ear wiggle for good measure.
John is survived by son Dale Frank (Evanna), 2 granddaughters: Estelle Cramer and Barbara (Chad) Stoerner, a great-granddaughter Haddie Grace, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife Ruth and son Gary. He was also the last living member of 6 children: Emma, Harry, Robert, Elizabeth, and Mary.
The Cramer family will welcome all who wish to pay their respects at Buck-Ashcraft Funeral Home Thursday, September 29th from 6-8pm. Chapel service will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home at 10am Friday, September 30th followed by a graveside service at Mont Meta in San Benito.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions to a charity of their choice in John’s honor.
