John B. Carey

John B. Carey, Sr. born November 5, 1918 in Fort Collins, CO to Lester John and Lilly Wynans Carey and passed away on July 4, 2010 at Harlingen Medical Center.
He moved his family to Harlingen in 1942 where he was employed by the E.J. Waitman Co. as a sheet metal worker.  John founded Carey Sheet Metal Shop in 1948 in Harlingen.  He proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during WWII.  John was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Confederate Air Force and enjoyed hunting and fishing. John was loved by all his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 50 years, Edna Carey; father, L.J. Carey; son, Robert L. (Bobby) Carey; grandson, Charles Thomas III; one great grandson, Bret Jackson; three sisters and one brother.
John is survived by his children, John B. Carey Jr. (Phyllis) and Ree L. Lyons (James); his grandchildren, John Carey III of Harlingen, Leslie J. Roripaugh of California, Robert Carey, Jr. of Oklahoma, Rusty Carey of Harlingen, Loe (Jackson) Piscitelli of Portland, Oregon, and Dawn Lener of Kyle, Texas; thirteen great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, 4 p.m., at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home Chapel with Duran Elkins officiating. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in La Feria.
Pallbearers will be the employee of Carey Sheet Metal Shop.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 2151, Memphis, TN 38105.
