John C. Atchison, Jr., 92, passed away July 25, 2008 in League City, Texas.
John was born July 12, 1916 in Alpine, Texas to John C. Atchison and Bess Atchison. He graduated form Harlingen High School and also attended San Marcos Baptist Academy and Texas A and M University.
John moved back to Harlingen with his wife, Lorene in 1946 after serving in World War II and working in Houston. He started an orchard management business and in 1968 opened the Atchison Citrus Center on Expressway 83. He was the exclusive supplier of gift fruit for Sakowitz of Houston.
John was a member of the Rotary Club of Harlingen and a past President of the Lions Club of Harlingen. He was also a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Harlingen for many years and was an avid fisherman and golfer.
He is survived by his children; Rick (Pat) Atchison, David Atchison and Virginia Westbrook; grandchildren, John L. (Stacy) Atchison, Carol Hollinger and Laura Westbrook; great granddaughter, Zoe Hollinger; and his brother; Dr. Martin (Andra) Atchison.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, August 2, 10 a.m., at Restlawn Memorial Park in La Feria, Texas with Rev. Chris Hall officiating.
