Joe Clifford Webb, 77, passed away on Saturday, January 15, 2011 at a local nursing center. Joe was born December 29, 1933 in Jackson County, Alabama to William Clark and Fannie Jane Webb. He was a graduate from high school in Scottsboro, Alabama. Joe proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman 1/C and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.  He was a wholesale food salesman and opened the Valley Area for L.L. Harris Food Sales where he was a supervisor, also worked for Rainbow Baking and Sunshine Biscuit.  After retirement, Mr. Webb owned and operated with a partner a car sales business under the name of R & J Auto Sales.
Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church of Combes where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Member and volunteered his music ministry to the local nursing homes. He was also a member of the Three “J’s” Music Group in which he played the guitar and sang gospel music. Joe served as Alderman and Mayor ProTem of the City of Combes for several years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Lonnie Webb, W.C. Webb Jr., George Webb, Odell Webb and Albert Webb.
Joe is survived by his wife, Lillian Juanel (Gurley) Webb; his son, Joel Clark Webb and his wife Danielle Cooper Webb; two grandchildren, William Marshall Webb and Nathaniel Lucas Webb; brothers, Herman Webb (Alice), Sherman Webb (Opal), Thomas Webb and Robert Webb. Also surviving are his brother-in-law, Jerry Gurley; nephew; Shane Gurley; sister-in-law, Shelby Webb and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 19, 2011 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 20, 2011, 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Combes with Rev. Steve Weist and Bro. Cliff Brown officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration Road, Mission, TX 78572. In addition, there will be a memorial service held for family and friends in Alabama at Fairfield Baptist Church, Hollywood, Alabama on Saturday, January 22nd  at 4 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bart Haynes, Robin Hayse, Jerry Gurley, Shane Gurley, Bill Grissom, Cecil SoRell, Norman Welch and Phil Cooper.
