Joe  N. Mendoza “El Wheat”, 83, entered into eternal rest on January 17, 2009. He was born on February 15, 1925. He was a WWII U. S. Navy Veteran and last worked as a Welding Instructor at T.S.T.C.
Leaving behind his beloved wife of 15 years, Matiana Cardenas-Mendoza, step-daughter, Sonia Cardenas-Aguinaga (Rafael Sr.) and step-son, Rodolfo Cardenas Jr. (Lorena).
Survivors from previous marriage, daughters, Yolanda M. Gomez (Santos Jr.) and Veronica M. Enrigues, step-daughter, Olga S. Stevens (Harry Sr.), step-son, Jose C. Soto (Mary). Joe is also survived by sisters, Elena Mares (Elias), Bertha Tristan (Antonio +) and Dora Mendez (Ricardo). He was preceded in death by sisters, Amelia Caranza and Guadalupe Denahy.Joe was blessed with 21 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Honored to be pallbearers are Ralph Aguinaga II, Rudy Aguinaga III, Elias Mares Jr, Diego Tristan, Frank Mares and Santos Gomez Jr. Visitation will be on Monday January 19, 2009 from 12pm to 9pm at San Benito Funeral Home with a eulogy at 6 and rosary will follow. Funeral services will be on  Tuesday January 20, 2009 at 3pm at  Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Harlingen. Interment will follow at Ashland Veteran Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home.
