Joe Ellsworth McCain

San Benito/Houston, TX - Joe Ellsworth McCain, Sr., passed away October 21, 2011 with his family by his side in Houston, TX. He was 84.

Joe was born January 4, 1927 in San Benito, TX to G.W. and Myrtie McCain.  He was the youngest and last surviving of 9 children.

He attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX with an interest in theology.
He returned to south Texas to join his father’s business and was blessed to fulfill his lifelong passion of farming and ranching for over 60 years.  In 2013, McCain Farms will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

Joe was a Deacon at the First Baptist Church in San Benito and remained active and dedicated to ministry.  His faith, dedication to Christ, and benevolence to others was at the core of his character and evident to all who knew him.

Mr. McCain is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Josie, his son, Joe Jr; his daughter, Wendy Ward and spouse; and grandchildren, Joe III, Abigail, Sarah and Faith.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 from 5:00 P.M.to 7:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.

Service will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at Borderland Calvary Chapel, 299 East Haywood Street in San Benito. Reception to follow at the church. Private family interment will be held at a later time.

Pallbearers will be Willy Wells, Wayne Halbert, Lee Bizzell, Murray Thompson, Frank Garza and Wayne Snapples.
