Joe Vernon Graber, 73, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, Texas. Joe was born July 15, 1935 in Watertown, TN to George Garnel and Virginia Metcalf Graber.
He attended Georgetown College in Kentucky and received a Bachelor of Arts degree, then attended Cape Western Reserve where he received a Masters of Fine Arts degree. Joe received a Group Life and Health Insurance Certificate through the Health Insurance Association of America. He was a Chartered Financial Consultant and a Chartered Life Underwriter with American College. Joe retired as a vice-president of American Insurance.
Joe had many accomplishments; he was managing director of the Shreveport Symphony, an organizer (with Tom Chaney) of the Horse Cave Repertory Company and a professor at Centenary College, New York Union, the University of W. Virginia, and Simpson College. He retired as a professor of theatre and speech.
Joe enjoyed reading, classical music and performing arts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Garnel Graber and Virginia Metcalf Graber and a granddaughter, Rachel Jean Katz.
Joe is survived by his wife Cindy M. Graber; two brothers, Garnel Graber and Glen Graber; his children, Linda M. Graber, John W. Graber and Mandy W. Katz; granddaughter, Erika K. McBee; grandson, William Graber; and great grandson, Jakob McBee.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at Mangum Memorial UMC, 3939 Pines Rd, Shreveport, LA.
