Harlingen:
Jo Ellen Knight Paschall Banks, 81, of Harlingen entered into the glory of her eternal life on Friday, May 17, 2013 at Harlingen Medical Center surrounded by her loving family and close friends.
Jo Ellen, a lifetime resident of Harlingen touched the lives of thousands in our community. She was a 1952 graduate of the University of Texas, where she was affiliated with Alpha Phi sorority. She was a life-long educator and began her teaching career in the League City Elementary School. In 1976 she became the founder and director of the University Preparatory School which was a four year accredited High School.
Jo Ellen was a member of the PEO Chapter T Golden Girl since 1962; held every office in the chapter and was most noted for Recording Secretary extraordinaire because of her way with words. She was also a member of the Harlingen Sunburst Rotary Club, a board member of the Harlingen Sunburst Rotary, an Assistant District Governor from 2000 to 2001; and was the first female Rotary Club President of Texas from 1987 to 1989.
She was an avid reader and a lifelong educator she continued her lessons through Methodist Ministry and preached throughout churches in the Valley.
Jo Ellen was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her and been a part of her life.
Jo Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. James Knight and Jo Marie Graham Knight; her late husband Dr. Charles Lynn Paschall; son Mark Lynn Paschall; and daughter Carla Lynn Paschall.
Left behind to eternally treasure her memories are her husband, Robert J. Banks; son, James Cable Paschall (Celeste); grandchildren James Knight Paschall, Amy Noel and Nicole Reece. She is also survived by five great grandchildren.
Jo Ellen’s family would like to extend their appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ricardo Ochoa, for the compassion and care he showed. His care and treatment granted us all five very productive years with her.
A celebration of Jo Ellen’s life will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 11 a.m., at Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Hinchcliff officiating.
