Jesus D. Hernandez, Jr.

San Benito, TX- Jesus D. Hernandez (Chief), 68, of San Benito passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesus R. and Juanita D. Hernandez; a brother, Enrique Hernandez; and a daughter in law, Marisela A Hernandez.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Adriana R Hernandez; three children, Jesus R. Hernandez III, Yvette H. (Mando) Garza, and Annette M. Chaisson; two grandchildren, Diana Noemi (Ricky) and Joshua Jesus (Mariel); and one great grandchild, Ethan Alejandro; he is also survived by his siblings, Juan (Yolanda) Hernandez and Gloria A Hernandez.
Jesus was a dedicated educator who worked with the San Benito school district for 45 year, not only devoting his talent in the classroom, but also coaching students on the football field and supporting his fellow colleagues through his service as TSTA President. His love for contributing to his community was also seen with his church service as a devoted Catholic and catechism teacher. He was also a long time member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 3493. Throughout the years, he served them in various roles including Grand Knight and District Deputy. His talents also extended to creating visions of beauty; Jesus owned and operated The Rosary Flower Shop in San Benito for many years.
His contribution to his community is only outshined by his dedication and loyalty to his family. Jesus was a loving and supportive husband and father. He will be sadly missed.
Visitation was held on Monday, January 24, 2011 from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. with a Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 P.M. at San Benito Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Benedict Catholic Church. Interment will follow to Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
