Jesus "Chito" Plata

November 11, 1925 — July 3, 2017

Jesus (Chito) Plata, 91, was called to the Lord’s presence on July 3, 2017. He was born on November 11, 1925 to Benigno Plata and Maria Cavazos Plata. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Celia T. Plata and his daughters Molly Bledsoe and Delia Stoddard.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Belinda Plata, Eliud (Mindy) Plata, Edna (Eddie) Amaya, eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Chito, as all knew him, was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Chito had deep roots in his Christian beliefs and served as a Deacon and Elder for multiple terms and attended the General Assembly in Memphis, Tennessee with the Presbyterian Church. Chito also proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II in the 254th Field Artillery Battalion.
Chito worked at Aldridge Washman for many years and then worked at selling auto parts from where he retired.
Anyone who knew Chito received phone calls from him. It was his way to stay connected with the world and the people he cared about. Sometimes he’d call to scold you or to make you feel guilty for not attending church that Sunday. Or, sometimes it was just to check up on you and ask how you were doing and to let you know that the tomatoes were on sale at HEB. He always kept his family and friends connected by using his cell phone. Chito hardly used a phone book; he had most all the numbers memorized.
Chito loved everyone and he was a bridge that connected us all to everything and everyone. He will be truly missed by all, but we know he is back with is sweetheart in Heaven rejoicing.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home on Friday July 7, 2017 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel with procession to Mont Meta Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers will be Armando Avila, Javier Avila, Carlos Valdez III, Christopher Stoddard, Matthew Plata, and Michael Plata. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marianela Valdez, Jacklyn Rouff, Priscilla Briones, Delia Collins, Amanda Rodriguez. We extend a special thanks to all who knew and loved “Chito”.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home at 1400 W. Business U.S. 77, San Benito, Texas 78586, 956-361-9192.
