Jessica Beth Garcia, age 33, beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, aunt and friend has flown free like a precious dove to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 6, 2009. Jessica was born on the 14th of July 1975 in San Benito, Texas. She attended San Benito High school (1993) where she became a state ranked athlete in track and cross-country. She won numerous awards and accolades during her high school career. After high school she received a full track scholarship at the University of Texas Pan American at Edinburg. There, she was a letterman winner for three seasons and a member of the ’95 Sunbelt Cross-Country Champion team. She had many top ten finishes in the 800, 1500 and 1- mile competitions. Her name is still listed in the UTPA record books.
Jessica was very much loved and will be truly missed. She could brighten any room with her beautiful smile and loving personality. Jess would go to the end of the world for her family and friends. Her niece and nephews loved their aunt “Ke-kah” because they always got their way and she spoiled them so! Her sisters idolized her and tried to run in her shadows; she protected them always. Her “brothers” loved her free spirit, and spontaneity. Her doting parents loved her, and will forever love her.
Jessica is survived by her parents, Juan and Elizabeth Garcia; grandfather, Juan M. Garcia, her sister, Angela Kornegay wife of Jonathan; her sister Sandra Vernon wife of Matthew; nephews Jacob and Jon Nathan Kornegay; and niece, “her little shadow” Alyssa Kornegay. Jessica was preceded in death by her grandmother, Bertha Garcia; her grandfather, Pablo Sosa; grandmother, Agar Sosa, and numerous family members. Visitation will be on Saturday January 10, 2009 from 3pm to 9pm with a prayer service at 7pm and on Sunday January 11, 2009 from 12pm to 9pm at San Benito Funeral Home. Funeral services will be on Monday January 12, 2009 at 10am at San Benito Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
