Jerry A. Woodcock

August 23, 1942 — August 14, 2016

Jerry Allan Woodcock (a former Vice President at Saginaw Valley State University) passed away at his home in Harlingen, Texas, on Sunday, August 14, at the age of 73.  Undetected, terminal cancer had left him a paraplegic in January 2015.  His death was not unexpected.  And, thankfully, his passing was without much suffering.
Jerry was a hard worker who believed in the importance of education.  He retired in 2001 from his position as the Vice President for Administration and Business Affairs at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) in Saginaw, Michigan, after 23 years of service to the university.  Prior to working at SVSU, he had worked as a CPA with Ernst & Ernst and in both the faculty and administration at Central Michigan University.  He had a bachelor’s degree in business from Ferris State University and a MBA from Michigan State University.  Jerry was also active in community service.  He had been a member of the Bay City Rotary, serving as its President 1989-1990.  He served on the Freeland Community School Board for 11 years from 1981 to 1992.  He had also been active with the Kawkawlin River Watershed Property Owners Association.  He enjoyed fishing, boating, antique automobiles, four-wheeling with his Jeep, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was always eager to try out a new restaurant.
Born in August of 1942 to Donald and Lena Woodcock, Jerry is survived by his one older half-brother, Don, as well as his two younger brothers, Paul and Phil.  He would have been married 50 years to Marcena (Fedder) Woodcock on August 27.  He is survived by his wife Marcena (“Tina”), his children Brian and Saralyn (and spouse, Timothy), and his grandchildren Benjamin, Samantha, Isaac, and Zechariah.
His body was cremated.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2016, at 11:30 am in Harlingen, Texas, at the Sunwest community building on Sunwest Blvd.  Lunch will be provided afterwards.
A second memorial service is being planned for next July (2017) in Michigan when his ashes will be entombed along the Muskegon river at Duggan's Canoe Livery and Campground, near Harrison, Michigan.  Details will be forthcoming.  Let the family or Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home (956-423-3636) know if you are interested in obtaining more information as it becomes available.
Memorial donations should be sent to the Jerry A. and Marcena Woodcock Scholarship Fund at SVSU Foundation, 7400 Bay Rd, University Center, MI 48710.
