Jean Clairice Duncan (née Landers) was born in Houston, Texas on November 2, 1942, to Clairice Vickrey & Hendricks William “Buck” Landers. She passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024, just a few weeks shy of her 82nd birthday in Harlingen, Texas.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Jimmy Duncan as well as her children: Sheri Jean Deloney of Houston, Len Thomas “Tom” Deloney III of Houston, Sandra Lea Flinn (David) of Harlingen, and Stacie Elizabeth Burrows (Desmond) of Los Angeles, California, and stepdaughter Sheila Marie Bullington (Frederick “Tucker”) of Brazoria, 8 grandchildren: Rhett and Chance Bullington, Kaylen and Alyssa Deloney, Jacob “Jake” and Matthew “Matt” Flinn, James and Charles Burrows, and one great-grandchild Russell Bullington.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Clairice Vickrey Landers and her father Hendricks William “Buck” Landers.
Jean was a proud Houstonian, raised in a modest home off La Branch with her mother and her grandmother, Adeline “Addie” Vickrey, just a few minutes away from her favorite bakery, Miss Moeller’s. Her faith in God was established and nurtured at South Main Baptist Church in downtown Houston, where her mother was a Sunday school teacher. Jean attended Bellaire High School. She loved her city and found meaningful ways to contribute to her community. The consummate volunteer, Jean was a crucial member of several organizations. We joked that she also attended Mayde Creek High School because she was a permanent fixture there as a volunteer with the PTA. Jean was surrounded by strong and capable women her whole life. She found true friendships with her beloved Bridge group, The Ladies of Fleetwood, and of course, The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Committee, where she was a member for 32 years. Of all the things she made, whether it was a seasonal wreath upon the door, the perfect bow on a present, or her famous “Ma-Maw cookies,” Jean made an indelible impact.
The family would like to express our sincere gratitude for the nurses and doctors at Houston Methodist West Hospital, Golden Palms Rehabilitation, and Bristol Hospice in Harlingen, Texas.
A memorial service will take place on Friday, October 25th at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church West Campus in the Williams House, 19449 Katy Freeway Houston, Texas 77094.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Educational Fund (https://secure.rodeohouston.com/Donate/?code=MemorialFund) or The Alzheimer’s Association (https://act.alz.org/site/Donation2?df_id=32112&32112.donation=form1&_gl=1*1s7hvsu*_gcl_aw*R0NMLjE3Mjg5NjM1NjAuQ2owS0NRandnck80QmhDMkFSSXNBS1E3elVrYWlRQ1I4UVFaNEFfU1hqTGc1SjExcVNQZ3RCaGwxRHV0Q3BLUmlYbmJZb09yRU1taDhFOGFBZ0R4RUFMd193Y0I.*_gcl_au*MjAxNTM3NzU4NC4xNzI4OTYzNTE4*_ga*MTk4ODcwOTAzNy4xNzI4OTYzNTE5*_ga_QSFTKCEH7C*MTcyODk2MzUxOC4xLjEuMTcyODk2MzU2Mi4xNi4wLjA.*_ga_9JTEWVX24V*MTcyODk2MzUxOC4xLjEuMTcyODk2MzU2My4xNS4wLjA) in Jean Duncan’s honor.
