Harlingen:
Jaret E. Cummings, 84, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Canterbury Court in Harlingen.
Jaret was born on July 26, 1927 in Prescott, AR to Rufus and Delphia Cummings.  He graduated from Harlingen High School in 1944 and then served in the United States Air Force for a short time.
Jaret was the owner and operator of Hurricane Fence Company until 1985 and the owner and operator of the Patio Specialty Shop all in Harlingen, McAllen, Pharr and Brownsville.
Jaret was a Board member of Trevecca Towers in Nashville, TN; Irrigation District #6; Salvation Army and contributed to many other community organizations.  He also was a member of the Harlingen Rotary Club where he had 33 years of perfect attendance and a Paul Harris Fellow.
Jaret was a lifelong member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Harlingen, where he served as a Board Member, Sunday School Superintendent and Treasurer.  He was responsible for the founding of The Palms Retirement Center, a HUD Project for the elderly.
Jaret had many interest including fishing and especially traveling with his wife to Canada, Alaska and Hawaii.
Jaret is survived by his wife of 32 years, Betty Cummings; sister, Odethel Knutson of Tyler, TX; nieces, Linda Preston of Harlingen and Norma Hill of Tyler, TX; nephew, Melvin Knutson of Houston, TX; step-children Kay (Billie) Belschner of Harlingen and Carl (Anne) Scott of Mercedes.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Dovie Lee Herkimer and brothers, Albert Cummings and Arlis Cummings.
Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM with the family receiving guests from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at the First Church of the Nazarene in Harlingen, 10:00 AM, Friday, September 30, 2011 with the Rev. Mel Justice officiating.  Entombment will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be David Osborne Sr., Nick Hernandez, Wayne Modine, Ray Martinez, Robert Preston, and James Cantrell.
Those desiring to do so may make memorial donations to the Boys and Girls Club of Harlingen, 1209 W. Washington, Harlingen, TX 78550 or to the First Church of the Nazarene, 2001 N. 7th, Harlingen, TX 78550.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to caregivers, Ramiro and Annie Martinez, Richard Mancha and Staff at Canterbury Court and the personnel of Greater Valley Hospice Alliance.
