Janet Dwire Mathis, 74, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen.
Janet was born October 24, 1936 in Cuero, Texas to Arlis Dwire and Elizabeth Smith Hutson. She attended San Marcos Academy and was employed with M & M Sales, and then Janet worked in real estate before retiring. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Harlingen and Harlingen Sorority. Janet had a passion for horses and enjoyed traveling aboard and spending time with her boys.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her aunt Mary Jewel Smith.
Janet is survived by her sons, Thomas E. Mathis IV and wife Teena K., William C. Mathis and wife Laura F. and Michael L. Mathis; grandchildren, Thomas E. Mathis V, Jeffrey B. Mathis of Houston, Matthew D. Mathis of Houston, TX, Collin C. Stewart of Harlingen, Dustin L. Mathis of Harlingen, Krystina L. Mathis of Harlingen, and Michelle J. Mathis of Harlingen; six great grandchildren; brother, Charles A. Dwire of Portland, Oregon and Rodney P. Dwire of Houston, TX; and former husband Tom Mathis III.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held Friday, February 11, 2011, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Harlingen with Rev. Chris Hall and Dudley Blakeney officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas F. Mathis V, Jeffrey B. Mathis, Matthew D. Mathis, Collin C. Stewart, and Dustin L Mathis.
