Jane Stewart Taylor, 86, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen.
Jane was born March 18, 1925 in Charleston, West Virginia to Lela Palmer and Melville Stewart. Jane attended the West Virginia University and received a B.S. degree in 1946. Later she received her Master’s degree in counseling and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa, honorary fraternity.
She married William M. “Bill” Taylor in 1946. Jane taught at the West Virginia University for 2 years then moved to Harlingen in 1948.  In 1969 the family moved to Corpus Christi and then in 1978 they moved to Austin and in 1984 they moved back to Corpus Christi. After Bill retired they returned back to Harlingen in 1996.
Jane was active in the educational field as she was the co-founder of St. Alban’s Episcopal Day School and later was the school’s director for 5 years.  She taught in Harlingen, Corpus Christi and in Austin and was active in the field of Distributive Education both locally and state wide.
She was always active in church activities. Jane was a charter member and guide at the Texas State Aquarium as well as having served on the Board of Directors at the present time. She was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church and Alter Guild, the P.E.O. Chapter FY and a sustaining member of the Harlingen Junior League.
Jane is survived by her three sons, Mel (Leslie), Jock (Pam), and Jeff (Brenda); grandchildren, Hilary, Ben, J.J., Tyler, Matthew and Kate Taylor; brother-in-law, James Jameson of Tucson, AZ; and her beloved four legged companion, Mini Pearl.
She was preceded in death by her parent; husband, Bill Taylor and sister, Martha Jameson.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2011, 2 p.m., at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Scott Brown, officiating. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions may be made to St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 1417 E. Austin, Harlingen, Texas 78550.
