James “Jim” Harold Valleroy entered peacefully into eternal life on August 31, 2013 at Sunshine Haven in Olmito, Texas. He was born January 22, 1926 in Doniphan, Missouri to Arthur Francis Valleroy and Nancy Alma Moore Valleroy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Fred Arthur Valleroy. He is survived by his sister, Willette Parker, sister-in-law, Donna Jean Valleroy, his children, James (Laura) Valleroy, and MaryLou (Howard) Deaton, and grandchildren Kimberly (David) Pruitt, and Howard Deaton III. Jim is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished by his family, dear friend and caregiver, Peggy Bartolomea, his fellow members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, his friends at the Palmdale jam sessions and many other friends throughout the valley.
During his lifetime Jim pursued a variety of professions: mechanic, truck driver, police officer, Civil Air Patrol volunteer and interim pastor for the First Church of God in Harlingen, Texas. He was a veteran of WWII and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 5 years.
His interests included electronics, boating, and especially a lifelong love of music. Known as a talented guitar player and singer, he spread the gospel through music. Nearly every Sunday for 20 years, he and his sister sang at a local truck stop and Retama Manor Nursing Center.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 4 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, 710 Ed Carey Drive, Harlingen, Texas (956) 423-3636. Graveside services will be on Thursday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m. at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery, 2520 S. Inspiration Road, Mission, Texas.
