James Franklin Simmons, 91, passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 at Retama Manor Nursing Center-Harlingen.
James was born in Linden, Texas on May 8, 1920 to James & Ora Simmons. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force with the Bombsight Maintenance from 1941-1945. James married Esther P. Bryant in December 1941 and was employed with Burroughs/Unisys Corporation and retired after 35 years of service. He was an elder with the Church of Christ and on the Sunny Glen Children’s Home Board of Directors.
James is survived by his son, Larry Simmons and wife, Alice of Wichita, Kansas; daughter, Mary Oppermann and husband Karl of Katy, Texas; granddaughters, Chenoa Simmons-Daniels of Wichita, Kansas and Carly Oppermann of Katy, Texas; grandson: Dylan Grayson of Houston, Texas; and cousins, John Land of San Benito, Harry and Glenda Smith of San Benito, and countless friends and loved ones throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 11, 2011, 6 p.m., at Baptist Temple, 1201 N. Reagan St., San Benito, Texas in the Fellowship Hall with Pastor Harry Smith officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Sunny Glen Children’s Home, P.O. Box 1373, San Benito, Texas 78586, or the Baptist Temple, 1201 N. Reagan St., San Benito, TX 78586.
