James V. Newman, Jr., 67, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2012 at the Veranda Nursing Home in Harlingen.
James was born in Harlingen on July 15, 1945 to James and Thora Lou Breedlove Newman. He grew up in Harlingen and graduated from Harlingen High School in 1963. He earned a Master’s Degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX and served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
James worked for the State of Texas for many years and had a great passion for white water rafting and birding.
He is survived by and aunt, Niedra Smith of Austin, TX; numerous cousins and special caretaker, Rosa Cavazos Breedlove of Harlingen. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services only will be held at Mont Meta Memorial Park, 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 18, 2012.
The family wishes to thank the Veranda Nursing Home Staff, Dr. Shridhar Kotta, Dr. Todd Shenkenberg and CIMI Hospice for all there caring and concern.
