James Leal

James “Jimmy” Leal, 90, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on October 29, 1933 in La Paloma, Texas to David Gracia Leal Jr. and Otila Guerra Leal.

Jimmy embarked on his professional journey with the Highway department and later with the Alcohol Beverage Commission, where he dedicated 30 years of his life before retiring.

During his leisure time, Jimmy found joy in ranching, fishing, playing various activities, and collecting coins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Maria Elena Leal Rios, Cecilia Leal Perez, Ida Leal Hernandez; brothers, Leonardo Leal and David Leal Jr.

Left to treasure Jimmy’s memory are his children, Jaime Leal Jr. and Cristina Leal Sustaita; his son-in-law, Ciro R. Sustaita; his grandchildren, Esteban Leos III, David M. Leos, Ciro Sustaita Jr. (Jessica); great grandchildren, Jacob Leos, Alysabeth Julia Leos (Tanner Smith), Alexandra Jasin Leos (Christian Torres), Taylor Sustaita, Alina Sustaita; his great great grandson, Ezra Alexandre Torres; his siblings, Oscar Leal, Celeste Leal De Leon, Gloria Leal Coffing..

The Leal, Leos, and Sustaita Families extends their gratitude to Mr. & Mrs. John Sanchez and family of Compassionate Home Care as well as Maria Morales, Maggie Hernandez, her godson, Martin Herandez from Hospice Care, and close friend Rosemary Gonzalez for their unwavering support during this difficult time.

The Leal, Leos, and Sustaita families will receive friends and relatives on Friday, July 26, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. A recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 7 o’clock Friday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in El Ranchito. Following the Mass, Jimmy will be laid to rest at Esparza Cemetery in El Ranchito. 

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Esteban Leos II, Ciro Sustaita Jr., Danny Leal, Richard De Leon, David M. Leos, Leonardo L. Perez, Jamie Leal, and Raymondo De Leon. Honorary pallbearers will be Ciro Sustaita, Martin Hernandez, Oscar Leal, and Jacob Leos.
