San Benito:
Jakob Edwin Schneider has completed his victorious journey.
Jake, age 60, gained his crown on July 8, 2018 after an 18-month battle with Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer. So glorious to be called home on his birthday.
Jake was born on July 8, 1958 in San Benito, Texas to Edwin and Lenora Schneider of San Benito, Texas. He grew up in San Benito and was active in Boy Scouts, Little League and Punt, Pass and Kick. In high school he was active in FFA and played basketball but his true love was football. Jake played numerous positions while playing for the San Benito Greyhounds, #83. He said not too long ago that once a Hound, always a Hound! Go Greyhounds!
After high school, Jake enlisted in the United States Air Force under the Buddy System with friend and classmate, Jim Freeman. After Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, Jake went to Technical Training at Chanute AFB in Illinois to become a Jet Engine Mechanic. Upon completion of Technical Training he was stationed at Carswell AFB, Ft. Worth and then Andersen AFB, Guam. Jake received several accommodations for his expertise as a mechanic. After his tour with the Air Force, Jake worked for several different companies but his love for cooking took him to Lonnie’s Down Home which he and his wife Lonnie owned and operated. Being behind the grill was truly is passion. When he wasn’t behind the grill, Jake could be seen chatting with the “regulars” sharing tall tales. He knew no strangers.
Jake’s battle with cancer began in January 2017. As his cancer progressed his body was tired but his will was not. Cancer may have worn his body down but it did not take away his zest for life and his courage to fight. God gives his biggest battles to His strongest soldiers. Jake was our strong soldier.
Jake is survived by his wife, Lonnie Schneider; sons Christopher Jakob and Taylor Edwin; stepson Jason (Shelly); Chris; stepdaughters, Teresa and Victoria; parents Edwin and Lenora Schneider; sisters Debbie Dillard (Earl); Karen Holbrook (Hank); Brenda Cook (Loren); Vicky Sanchez (Henry); Cindy Schneider (Corey Stevens); Jennifer Burrier (Ronnie) and loving brother Bruce Schneider (Eydie); numerous nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
Jake was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jakob and Elsie Schneider; maternal grandparents, Howard and Hazel Dixon and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home, Thursday, July 12th from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and graveside services at Mont Meta Mausoleum Chapel, Friday, July 13th at 1:00 p.m.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Victor Garza, Tencha Lancaster, Carl Wells, the Greyhound Legends and San Benito High School classmates for their selfless and numerous visits and love; and to the staff and friends at La Frontera Adult Care and Retama Manor for their compassionate care.
