BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Jackie Newell Bearrow, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away on the 26th of January 2016 at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was eighty-six years old.
Jackie was born the 27th of May 1929 in Shamrock, Texas to Newell (Jester) and Eva Rosalind Harris Bearrow. He was known as “Big Train” during his football career at Olney High School, class of 1948. He continued his education and played football for Baylor University in Waco, Texas and Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. To this date he holds the record at Howard Payne for the most touchdown receptions (5) in one game against McMurry.
Jackie met the love of his life Barbara Idelle Ross while attending Howard Payne. They were married on the 31st of May 1952 in Brownwood, Texas, a few days before Army deployment to Nurnberg, Germany. His first son was born while he was deployed.
Their journey led them from Brownwood, Texas; Borger, Texas; and Fritch Texas. Jackie worked as the Shipping and Receiving Supervisor at the Phillips Petroleum Co-Poly custom mix rubber plant in Borger, Texas. Barbara was the lab clerk at the same plant. They had many wonderful friends and great memories from living in Fritch and Borger, Texas.
Jackie and Barbara were offered early retirement in 1983 and started traveling in their motorhome across the United States and Canada. They made many trips to visit their family and friends over the years. They were a big part of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s life. On their travels they discovered Riverbend Resort & Golf Club in Brownsville, Texas. They loved the golf, the climate and the “Winter Texans”. Riverbend became their full time home in 1986.
Jackie is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of sixty-three years Barbara, and infant sons Darrell Lee and John Gavin Bearrow.
Jackie is survived by two sons. Mike and wife Linda of Norman, Oklahoma; grandsons Christopher Bearrow and wife Laurie Dernick, great grandsons Liam and Sam Bearrow of Houston, Texas; Matthew Bearrow and wife Tiffany Hixson of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and Jonathan Bearrow of Norman, Oklahoma.
Son Patrick and wife Paulette Bearrow of Manvel, Texas; granddaughter Mandi Bearrow and great-grandchildren Xavier and Serenity Bearrow of Aransas Pass, Texas; and grandson Jaye Paul Barber and wife Lindsay of San Antonio, Texas.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, the 4th of February 2016, at one o’clock in the afternoon within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel, 1400 West Highway 77, San Benito, Texas 78586.
