Ismael (Mayo) R. Gracia, 73, died peacefully at his home in Laureles, Texas, on August 27, 2015 surrounded by his family after several hard-fought battles with cancer.
Mayo is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ninfa and his 4 children, Imelda (Jaime), Israel (Marissa), Ismael Jr., Idalia (Freddy), and 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Salvador Gracia.
Mayo now joins his parents, Carolina (Nana) and Jose Antonio (Tata), his brothers, Dario and Francisco, (Pancho) and nephew Franke in Eternal Life.
Mayo was employed as an educator serving as a teacher and counselor for 33 years in Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, and Texas Southmost College. Since the mid 60’s, he spent his life guiding youth and made a lasting impact on so many people. He will be most remembered for his unique laugh, love of family, fishing, watching old western movies and of course BBQ’ing and watching his favorite Dallas Cowboys.
Visiting hours are on Sunday, August 30, 2015, beginning at three o’clock in the afternoon and concluding at nine o’clock at night, with a recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock within the San Benito Funeral Home Chapel, 1400 West Highway 77, San Benito, Texas 78586.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 31, 2015 at ten o’clock in the morning, in Our Lady Queen of Universe Catholic Church, 121 Garrison Drive, San Benito, Texas 78586.
Committal services will then follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park.
