Irene C. Rodríguez

“Yo soy una persona que en su juventud fui feliz porque me casé el 6 de agosto de 1951. Tuve cinco hijas y cuatro hombres.”

Irene C. Rodríguez was the matriarch of her family. She was a hardworking, strong, beautiful woman who lived to be eighty-five years old.

Irene was born October 20, 1936 in Cd. Madero, Tamaulipas, México. She was the daughter of Julian Castañeda and Rosaura García and sister to Jesús Castañeda, Antonia Castillo, †Asunción “Chencho” Castañeda, †Delia Hernández, and Guillermo (Velia) Lara.

On August 6, 1951, Irene married Leonardo Rodríguez. Together, they were blessed with nine children – Victoria (Roberto) Suarez, Francisca (†Roque) Peña, †Leonardo Rodríguez Jr., †Susana Gutiérrez, Lionel (Leticia) Rodríguez, †Dagoberto Rodríguez, Héctor (Enedelia) Rodríguez, †Sylvia Rodríguez, and María del Rosario Rodríguez.

She later became a grandmother to nineteen grandchildren, a great-grandmother to twenty great-grandchildren, and a great great-grandmother to one great great-grandchild.

On August 5, 2022, Irene was at her lifelong residence, in San Benito, Texas, when she departed into her eternal rest to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is preceded in death by her husband, four children, two grandchildren, and two of her siblings.

Even though she will be greatly missed, the legacy of her life will forever continue on.

The Rodríguez family will have private family visitation Friday, August 12, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft San Benito Funeral Home. Friends of the family are invited to public visitation from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Services for Irene C. Rodríguez will conclude Friday evening at 8:00 p.m.
