Ildefonso “Poncho” Valdez, 74, of Harlingen, Texas passed away on December 15, 2020. He was born August 20, 1946 to Ismael and Beatriz Valdez. He is survived by his wife, Dora Valdez; daughter, Ileana Valdez of Colorado Springs, Colorado; son, Roel Valdez of Austin, Texas; sisters, Ofelia Castaneda and Narcisa “Narcy” Martinez; and brother, Dul Valdez.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ismael Valdez, Jr., David Valdez, Guadalupe Valdez, Juan Valdez, and sister Amparo Martinez. Mr. Valdez was employed at Cameron Appraisal District for 20 years and enjoyed watching sports, traveling, and especially the maquinitas. He will be dearly missed.
Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Roel Valdez, Adrian Benavidez, Omar Barbosa, Jaime Barbosa, and Joseph Martinez.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at San Benito Funeral Home. A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Brownsville, Texas with interment to follow at a later date at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
Services are under the direction of San Benito Funeral Home.
All guests must wear a facial covering and practice social distancing while visiting the funeral home.
