HARLINGEN, TX / ST. LOUIS, MO:
IDA MAE HATHAWAY CUNNINGHAM, FORMERLY OF HARLINGEN, TEXAS, PASSED AWAY IN ST. JOSEPHS HOSPITAL, ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ON JUN 29TH, 2007. SHE SUFFERED A BROKEN ARM IN A FALL FRIDAY, JUNE 22, AND WHILE IN THE HOSPITAL SHE DEVELOPED PHNEWMONIA AND HER KIDNEYS FAILED.
IDA MAE WAS THE YOUNGEST OF 4 SISTERS AND 3 BROTHERS BOURN TO LONGTIME HARLINGEN, TEXAS, RESIDENTS JAMES F. AND M. NORA FARR HATHAWAY. SHE GRADUATED FROM LA FARIA HIGH SCHOOL, CLASS OF 1931, AND ATTENDED HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY, BROWNWOOD, TEXAS.
SHE MARRIED GUY HOYETTE CUNNINGHAM IN DENTON, TEXAS, MAY 8TH, 1939, AND THEY CELEBRATED THEIR 60TH ANNIVERSARY IN 1999. GUY PASSED AWAY IN OCTOBER 1999. HE AND IDA MAE HAD TWO SONS, JAMES GUY AND TERRY LEE AND RAISED THEM IN FORT STOCKTON, TEXAS, WHERE THEY OWNED AND OPERATED A HARDWARE STORE AND “CUNNINGHAM FURNITURE AND APPLIANCES”. IN 1977 THEY RETIRED TO THE LAKE BUCHANON AREA NEAR BURNET, IN CENTRAL TEXAS, AND LATER MOVED TO SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, TO BE NEAR THEIR YOUNGEST SON TERRY.
IDA MAE IS SURVIVED BY HER OLDEST SON, JAMES GUY AND HIS SPOUSE, C. JEAN HILLIN CUNNINGHAM. JIM AND JEAN RESIDE IN ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI. JIM AND JEAN’S THREE SONS ARE HER ONLY GRANDCHILDREN. ALSO RESIDING IN ST. LOUIS IS HER FIRST GRAND SON, GUY NEYLAND CUNNINGHAM AND HIS SPOUSE, HOLLY BERGESON CUNNINGHAM. GUY AND HOLLY HAVE TWIN FIVE AND A HALF YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS…GREAT GRANDAUGHTERS ISABEL DANNER AND GENEVIEVE MAE CUNNINGHAM. SECOND GRANDSON JASON MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM AND HIS SPOUSE, TANYA RICHARD CUNNINGHAM ARE EXPECTING IN AUGUST OF THIS YEAR AND ALSO LIVE IN ST. LOUIS. HER THIRD GRANDSON, JAMES GREGORY CUNNINGHAM, AND HIS WIFE KASIE KINNAMAN CUNNINGHAM, LIVE IN INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA. HER YOUNGEST SON, TERRY LEE, WAS BOURN IN WESLECO, TEXAS, IN JANUARY 1946, BUT HE PASSED AWAY IN MAY 1999 DUE TO COMPLICATIONS FROM CANCER SURGERY.
IDA MAE WAS WELL KNOWN AND WIDELY RESPESCTED BY HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS AS A SPUNKY AND FIEST LADY, A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS WOMAN AND A GOOD FRIEND, QUICK TO HELP OTHERS. SHE JOINED THE WESLECO UNITED METHODIST CHURCH IN 1931 AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN A METHODIST WOMAN OF FAITH. THERE WILL BE A GRAVESIDE SERVICE FRIDAY, JULY 6, 2007, AT 10:00 AM, IN RESTLAWN MEMORIAL PARK, LA FERIA, TEXAS, WHERE SHE WILL BE INTERED.
