Hugh Charles Evans, “Charlie”, 83, passed away Friday, July 18 at Valley Baptist Medical Center after a long battle with illness.
Charlie was born on August 22, 1930 in Northern Ireland to Nora and Hugh Evans. He married Sheila Isabel Houston on June 12, 1953. His career took him and his wife around the world until he retired to the South Padre and Port Isabel area in 1990. In 2004, he moved to Harlingen for his wife’s failing health where she passed in December of 2006.
Charlie graduated from Queen’s University, N.I., with a degree in Physics. He worked as an electronics engineer for Rolls Royce in England, General Electric in Canada and later joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. In 1960, Charlie took a job with Westinghouse where he worked for the next 30 years until his retirement.
Charlie is survived by his sons, Dr. Michael (Ruth) Evans of McAllen, TX and Barry (Tab) Evans of Irvine, CA; daughter, Rosalind (Mark) Ludwig of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, and Liam Evans, Jenna, Kali and Cassie Ludwig; and one great granddaughter, Riley Asher.
The family will celebrate his life with a private memorial service.
