Howard "Skip" E. Tewell, III

Dr. Howard E. (Skip) Tewell, III, 55, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2009.
Skip was born and raised in Harlingen, TX. Then he moved with his family to College Station, TX and attended high school at College Station Consolidated ISD. He participated in track and football in high school. In 1972, he met and started dating Nancy Beltrand while they were still in high school. After graduation from high school he studied for his Captains license and worked for Captain Bob Williams during his summer breaks in college. In 1977, he married Nancy at All Faiths Chapel on the Texas A & M Campus.
Skip was a graduate of Texas A & M University and a graduate of Texas A & M College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1991 he bought San Benito Animal Clinic in San Benito, TX from Dr. Robert Kellogg.
Skip was active in many endeavors where he received many awards. He received the Laguna Atascosa Wildlife Refuge Humanitarian Award and the Boy Scouts of America Leader Award. He was a local V.M.A. Past President and past Vice President and also was a member of the First United Methodist Church in San Benito. His passions were fishing, hunting, surfing and taking photographs of wildlife.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy J. Tewell; daughter, Allison Taylor Tewell of College Station, TX; son, Joshua Chance Tewell of St. Kitts, VI; mother, Bernice Virginia McElwrath of Irving, TX; step-mother, Oleta Tewell of Harlingen, TX; sisters, Suzanne Higgins of Tucson, AZ and Jennifer Benton and her husband, Mike of Irving, TX; mother-in-law, Connie Beltrand of Bryan, TX; extended family, Tim and Mary Carney of Bryan, TX, Thomas and Pam Beltrand of Franklin, TX and Dan and Clare Beltrand of College Station, TX; nephews, Christopher Ross and wife, Anna, Jon Benton and wife, Jamie, Mathew Adamson and wife, Stephanie, Jeff Adamson and wife, Laura, Thomas Carney and wife, Christina and Trevor Carney; special friends, A. Jacob Merritt and Dr. Clarissa Downey. He was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Howard E. Tewell, Jr.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, October 9, 2009 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church 400 N. Sam Houston Blvd. in San Benito, TX, 3:00 PM, Saturday, October 10, 2009 with the Rev. Daniel C. Longoria officiating.
