Howard Philip Jordan, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home on July 31st, 2007 at the age of 86.
Howard was born on November 6th, 1920 in Stephenville, Texas. The family moved to the valley being the Combes area.
Howard was the oldest of three sons of H.P. and Opal Jordan.
Howard was preceded in death by his father, H.P. Jordan in 1977 and his mother Opal Jordan in 1999 both from Combes, Texas as well as a nephew Dave Freeman Jordan from Austin, Texas, and his daughter-in-law Rosie Maria Jordan from San Benito, Texas.
Howard is survived by his wife Frances Kilbourn Jordan of 61 years of marriage, one daughter, Peggy Ann Jordan of Houston; one son, Troy Howard Jordan of Combes, Texas; one grandson, Javier Herrera (Ali) of Virginia; one great granddaughter, Kadyn Marie Herrera of Virginia; two brothers, Jack M. Jordan (Beulah) of Farmington, New Mexico and George Frank Jordan of Rockport, Texas; and one brother-in-law, David Leeroy Kilbourn (Debbie) of Combes, Texas. He has five nephews, Mark Jordan Schindler of Austin, Texas, Phil Jordan (Cherrie) of Farmington, New Mexico, Don Jordan of Farmington, New Mexico, Joe David Kilbourn (Laurie) of Raymondville, Texas and Weldon Matlock (Kristi) of Combes, Texas; three nieces Tammy Kilbourn McCantes (Brett) of Atlanta, Georgia, Heidi Manke (Dan) of Baycliff, Texas and Melody Matlock of Mission, Texas; and one great niece Wendy Jordan of Goliad, Texas.
Howard spent his career in aircraft aviation. He was first employed with Pan American Airlines. He was then drafted into the U.S. Army to serve in WWII. During his service in the war he was transferred into the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Burma, India till the end of the war. Upon return from the war he returned to work for Pan American Airlines. On May 31st, 1946 Howard married Frances Kilbourn. After completing 17 years of employment with Pan American Airlines Howard returned to the U.S. Air Force and served his country for 22 years which included serving on tour of duty in Thailand during the Vietnam War. In 1975 Howard a veteran of WWII and Vietnam retired from the military and the family moved to Combes, Texas. Howard and Frances both had been longtime active members of First Baptist Church of Combes, Texas which they were married in on May 31st, 1946.
Howard will be remembered for being a kind and gentle man who treated others as he would like to be treated in return. He always had a smile and kind word for everyone.
Pallbearers will be the Deacons and friends of First Baptist Church of Combes, Honorary pallbearers will be the Auditorium Class Membership.
Visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Friday, August 3, 2007 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Services will be presided by Rev. Bob Cole on Saturday, August 4, 2007, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Combes. Burial will follow at Combes Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 598 Combes, Texas 78535 or charity of your choice.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. John Ferris for his loving care and kindness for Howard. Also a special thanks to the ladies that were caregivers to Howard; Vicky Perez, Mary Sauceda, and Blanca Sequera.
