Harlingen, TX:
Hollie Brookshire lived a long, full life and was loved by many. He was born on December 15, 1920 in Union City, Kentucky and went home to his Lord and Savior Jesus on June 15, 2014 in Harlingen, Texas.
Hollie spent his life encouraging and helping others. He did so as a member of “the greatest generation” through his service in the 8th Air Force during World II, as a local entrepreneur and business owner, as well as through his many years as a member and officer of Gideons International.
Hollie was married to his bride, Frances Ellen Dobbins, for fifty-six years before her passing in 1999. Together they raised two daughters. Hollie was a co-owner of Brookshire’s Auto Paint before he and Frances cofounded the first Christian Bookstore in the Valley and managed it together for several decades.
Hollie is survived by: two daughters Lynda Armstrong (Donald) of Houston, Texas and Deborah Gibson (Gregory) of Harlingen, Texas; a granddaughter Holley Gerth (Mark) and a great granddaughter Lovelle of Springdale, Arkansas; a grandson Stephen Armstrong (Amber) and two great grandsons Shane and Luke of Needville, Texas.
The family would also like to express their appreciation to Hollie’s caregivers, especially Nora Zavala.
While Hollie will be greatly missed, his legacy will continue through his family, friends and the many lives he touched in his community and throughout the world. “With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation” (Psalm 91:16).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Bibles be donated to Gideons International in memory of Hollie Brookshire (http://www.gideons.org).
A celebration service for Hollie Brookshire will be held at Christian Fellowship Church in Harlingen, Texas at 3pm on Saturday, June 28th.
