Herschel Bernard Zinn, 82, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Valley Baptist Medical Center.
Herschel was born on April 21, 1936 in Galveston, Texas to Abe and Elsie Zinn. He graduated from Galveston Ball High School in Galveston, Texas. Herschel married the love of his life Rena Jo Baum on August 19, 1956. He was a longtime resident of the Valley and had lived in Harlingen area for many years where he operated Baum’s Men’s Wear with his wife, Rena. Upon the closure of the family business, Herschel worked as a car salesman for many years at Lincoln dealership and ended his life working at Gillman Motors. He found great joy in his 32-year career as a car salesman with his second greatest joy being the Valley Race Track. Anyone that knew Herschel, knows that his second home was the Valley Race Track.
Herschel was active with many organizations and memberships from the Jaycee’s; Life Begins at 40 at Harlingen Country Club; Elks Lodge; Lions Club; and Temple Beth Israel. In 1982, he earned the title of World Championship Poker in Las Vegas.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Zinn Rudesal and husband, Les; granddaughters Adrien Adams and husband, Landon, Charlotte Manas and husband, Shane, Stescha Jordan and husband 1ST LT. Hunter Jordan, U.S. Army; grandson Richard Sonny Meyers; great-grandchildren Abigail Manas, Alessa Meyers, Tristyn Adams and baby Jordan; sisters, Frances Leff and husband, Bernard, Esther Taylor and husband Phil; nephews, David Fair, Larry Fair, Harvey & Sharon Zinn, Elias & Janis Zinn, Alan & Barbara Zinn, Mikel & Robin Leff; niece, Pamela & Alan Reingold; sister-in-law, Harriett Zinn.
Visitation hour will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Graveside services only will be held at Restlawn Memorial Park, 10 am Wednesday, August 22, 2018.
In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions may be made to the charity of choice.
