Herbert Alan Scobey, 60, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2007 in Harlingen, Texas.
Herb was born October 24, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee to Herbert and Helen Scobey. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Memphis State University in 1974 and was employed by Lamar Outdoor Advertising as Vice President and Regional Manager of the Southwest Region.  Herb proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Air Force.
He was a member of the Harlingen Country Club where he served as a member of the Board of Directors and was the current President of “Life Begins at Forty” golf tournament.  Herb was Plant Manager of the Year in 1985 and awarded the Valley Ad Federation Outstanding Leadership Award 1988-1989, and the American Advertising Federation Silver Medal Award.   He enjoyed golfing, reading, swimming and spending time with his family and friends.
Herb is survived by his wife, Linda Goodwin Scobey; his daughters, Joanna Scobey and her fiancée Jason Black of San Antonio, Texas and Alicia Scobey of Seattle, Washington; brothers, Rick Scobey and his wife JoAnn of Cordova, Tennessee, Don Scobey and his wife Donna of Bartlett, Tennessee and Jon Scobey and his wife Ann of Barlett, Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Smith of DeRidder, Louisiana and Carol Goodwin of Waverly, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Thomas Goodwin and his wife Mary Lee of Waverly, Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews; and all the brothers and sisters of the Sunday Fun Bunch.
Visitation hours will be Tuesday, October 16, 2007 from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, 10 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Harlingen, Texas with Rev. Wade Hood officiating.  Burial will follow at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Rick Scobey, Don Scobey, Jon Scobey, Durrell Lovell, Kevin Lovell, Lester Hensley, Wayne Beneke, Carter Huber, Phil Cherry and Bob Ermey. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Sunday Fun Bunch.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1400 South Cage, Suite 9, Pharr, Texas 78577.
