Henry Walter Rickert was called home by the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2011 at the age of 85.
Henry was born April 23, 1926 in Mercedes, Texas to Henry and Anna Rickert. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Henry was a retired linen company employee and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren in his garden and had a love for his pets.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Anna Rickert of Mercedes; brothers, Max Rickert, Paul Rickert, and Emil Rickert; and sisters, Vera Jarrett, Esther Johnson and Christine Imel.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Vola Thomas Rickert; sons, Mike Rickert (Debbie) of Nampa, Idaho and Mike Short of Harlingen; daughters, Cindy Tilden (Mike) of San Benito and Donna Laurence (Frank) of Victoria; brother, Joe A. Rickert (Frances) of Harlingen; sisters, Shirley Weber (Lawrence) of Harlingen, Pauline Fox of Weslaco and Anna Jean Hardeman of San Antonio; seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home chapel on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Edge officiating. Private burial will be held.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Rickert, Mike Short, Mike Tilden, Frank Laurence, Jerry Tilden, Bryan Summers and Michael Rickert.
If desired, in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the charity of one’s choice.
