Helen Ione (Egge) Goembel was born on a farm near Inwood, Iowa on September 11, 1914 the daughter of Theodore and Martha Egge and passed away January 1, 2015. She attended all her schooling in Inwood, Iowa.
Helen was united in marriage with Russell on October 25, 1957. They lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she worked at the School for Deaf and also at the VA Hospital as a Dietitian Assistant and retired after 20 years. Helen and Russell wintered in Harlingen before moving there permanently in 2001. On February 3, 2003, her husband preceded her in death, ending a marriage of over 45 years. She resided in Retama Manor for three years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and Women of the Moose. Helen volunteered with children in the Host program at Stuart Place School in Harlingen.
Grateful for having shared her life with Russell, Goembel; daughter, Mary Ann (Gordon) Kerschmann of Harlingen, Texas; sons, Keith (Janice) Goembel of Lennox, South Dakota, Glenn Goembel and James (Marvella) Goembel both of Luverne, Minnesota; daughter-in-law, Mary Anne Goembel of Valley Springs, South Dakota; 45 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 22 great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents, her sons, James Branson and Clifford Goembel; and brother, Orville Egge.
